I'm officially excited about Scrubs moving to ABC. Bill Lawrence (the creator) says pretty much what I wanted to hear in this interview:

    http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Ausiello-Scoop-Lawrence/800039701

    The prevalent bits:

How do you go from three episodes on NBC to 18 on ABC?
Lawrence: It was weird, man. I was thinking we'd put these last six episodes on DVD, just so we can wrap the show up and be proud of it, but the head of ABC Studios, Mark Pedowitz, said, "Bill, if you can make the show a little cheaper, I can probably get us a full season on ABC." I didn't answer right away. The first thing I did was call the cast and the writers together and I said, "Look, if we're going to do this, we have to get back to something we creatively can all be excited about." Because, personally, I felt like this past season we were less than inspired comedically. So I said to them, "This means you guys working harder. It means having emotional stakes and losing all the goofy, broad stuff that I think is easy to write… " And everyone said they were on board for one more season.

Will the show still be a comedy?
Lawrence: It's still a comedy, but when we first did the show, it was a drama with elements of comedy and lots of stupid sound effects. But some of the strongest episodes in the second and third year had character comedy. You can still do things like kill Brendan Fraser and have the lady that loved musical theater die and then sing a song at the end. This became a very Simpsons-esque show with incredibly broad, unrealistic moments and fantasies that were both in reality and not in reality. When you've been writing this show for seven years, it's so easy to get into these patterns of writing the same jokes over and over: J.D. loves Turk, J.D. wants Dr. Cox's approval, Elliot's whiny and neurotic. But this year the stuff is really f--king good. I think our old stand-by fans are really going to dig these shows.

"This means you guys working harder. It means having emotional stakes and losing all the goofy, broad stuff that I think is easy to write… " And everyone said they were on board for one more season. <--- That is what I'm excited about.

I'm a Kate and Jack 'shipper on Lost- always have been. There- I said it. I know it's unpopular, but I don't care. The episode was pretty badass last night, too. Ben is a great character.

New Old 97s song! I like it! Guy on the right still looks like Stephen King...

Edited to add: You apparently click the link and click on the April 24th show and go to the last chapter (so this entry will not be valid after about a week).

    Pretty Song
Pretty, catchy, kinda girly song (pretty much the best song I've ever heard for a commercial- I actually look forward to these commercials for Macbook Air):

How this song was included in the Mike Doughty Pandora Radio station, I have no idea, but it's kinda funny (and very disturbing):

    Canada next week! Woohoo!

It's official: Lost has redeemed itself (stolen from Neil Gaiman's blog, but still pertinent- check the bottom right):

They've changed direction and are now doing flash-forward episodes. Nifty. Last week's was the best I've seen in a long time.

Also cool: Neil Gaiman's novel, American Gods (great book) will be posted free online.

I have a trend: if I want to procrastinate, I post a journal entry, and a lot of the time, it's about music.

I'm not big on The Shins (Zach Braff would be so disappointed in me), but I love this song:
Gone for Good (non-acoustic version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCe3e1FU6c8
    Acoustic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJT-wPeljo4&NR=1

Also- remember that Flagpole Sitta song by Harvey Danger? He sang more songs than that, and some of them are pretty good, in my opinion (this one is BNL- like):
    Moral Centralia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rk7PS3N3Ms

Also, when Cake covers a song, the cover version tends to be better (in my opinion) than the original:
    examples:
    I Will Survive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10C68Gzd5GM
Guitar Man (I think it's funny that Cake covered a song by Bread): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXuMx55PTgQ
Sad Songs and Waltzes (one of my favorite Cake songs ever): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw_VyaH4TIg
This one is apparently also a remake: Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QreQIkvgBo

Happy Valentine's Day everybody! I like Valentine's Day- I have since I was little. I got kind of lame Valentines for people this year, though- I haven't had time to go to Target for Office valentines (if they have them this year). The valentines do, however, include candy, which redeems them a little.

    Brief things (warning: entertainment post):

Mike Doughty's touring again and he'll be in Kentucky! I know no one knows who he is- I'm just excited about it.

I'm kind of getting into Lost again- I'm watching the latter half of the third season, and I'm enjoying (most of) it. Some of the dialogue, though, I swear... I'm impressed with the way that they bring in new characters and actually make me care about them. Juliet and Ben especially are pretty great characters.

I've seen There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men (the leaders in Academy Award nominations). I found No Country for Old Men to be much better in terms of entertainment value. There Will Be Blood was definitely one of those 'it was objectively good, but not for me' movies. I also can't believe that Javier Bardem (from No Country for Old Men) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor when, really, the guy carried the film. He was amazing. I really couldn't look at anyone else when he was on the screen. I thought he was even better than Daniel Day-Lewis in the other movie.

For people that have seen There Will Be Blood: apparently, this http://www.zazzle.com/i_drink_your_milkshake_shirt-235288882906972012 is really popular now.

I also saw Juno (three times), which I loved, but I don't think has a chance in hell at winning an Academy Award against the other two movies [although I was surprised when Crash won over Brokeback Mountain (a really, really great movie, by the way)- so I guess we'll see].

I totally just saw Steve Zahn (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001872/) walking down the sidewalk towards the coffee shop. I believe his wife just had a baby at the UK hospital (or one of the hospitals around here). Perhaps they would like to participate in the UK Infant Memory Development Project (we do harass just about everybody to come)... Hee.

Congrats to Katrina and Corey! I'm so excited about Saturday!

So who's going to see this movie with me when it comes out (Brandon? Leslie? Wesley? Jenn? Eh?)?:
Images of the new X-Files movie:

I love seeing David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back together. They're shooting in Vancouver (back to their roots)! I'm going to Vancouver for a conference in March- by then they'll be finished shooting the movie. Bah- maybe they'll have to reshoot some stuff in March...

I'm going to enjoy this semester a lot I think- I'm taking a class on social influence (which is vastly different from my research and the little niche of psychology I usually focus on- I've always been really interested in social psychology so this class is pretty cool) and working on an fMRI project with a professor that I really like. I also have to propose my dissertation and prepare for a class that I'm going to teach (teach- not TA- scary) this summer. It's going to be busy, but kind of exciting, which is great. What I needed, actually.

This is an interesting article (evolution is cool- holla!): http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20071212/sc_livescience/womenevolvemorespinetocarrybabies, but what caught my eye was the title on Yahoo: Scientists Discover how Pregnant Women Keep from Tipping Over. There's also a line in there about 'pregnant women tipping over all over the place' if they don't have these evolutionary spine fortifications that the article talks about. I find the image of pregnant women tipping over, especially if it happens all over the place, really funny for some reason. I'm really not a bad person.

Who wants to see Juno this week (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/juno/)? Michael Cera and Jason Bateman in the same (apparently really good) movie? You know you wanna.

My brother's MLS team won the national championship! He's had a good year (he's getting married on December 1, too).

Jason Segel singing is never not funny (see Freaks and Geeks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2Czbpk33PI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSzjbYomSWA- I couldn't find the best example). Jason Segel (Marshall) singing about slapping Neil Patrick Harris (Barney- from How I Met Your Mother) is classic. They made a freaking music video out of it!

Thanks for the support guys! Ya'll are the best. Good luck Jason and Tara!

FYI- if anyone has ever text-messaged me and not gotten a response, it's not because I hate you (although you really never know...hehe), it's because I don't get text-messaging. I realized this because I had Corey specifically text-message me and I didn't get anything at all.
